What is strategic planning?
Strategic planning is a process that builds consensus among stakeholders about an organization's future direction. This process requires a deep level of participation from the organization and its stakeholders.
Why are we doing strategic planning?
A new strategic plan for Al-Imam Muhammed ibn Saud Islamic University must be developed to take into consideration a range of emerging challenges and opportunities, and expectations of stakeholders. For example, the new strategy must:
- Take into consideration the growing competition from new and existing universities and institutions of research within and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
- Be responsive to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's call for reforms in the higher education sector;
- Enable the university to build new linkages and strengthen existing collaborations with its peers around the world;
- Take advantage of information technology, through distance learning and computer-aided instruction;
- Emphasize multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to education and research to solve complex problems; and
- Articulate a set of distinctive features for the university that set the university apart from its peers.
How is the plan being developed?
There will be two distinct phases of activities with regard to the development of a comprehensive strategic plan for Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. The first phase will focus on development of a forward-looking strategic plan that includes vision, mission, values, future development scenarios, quick wins and a range of strategic elements that will be essential for the future course of the university. The second phase will focus on a deeper exploration of the proposed strategic elements and development of detailed action plans, change and risk management plans, key performance indicators (KPIs) and a monitoring system required to execute the strategy.
Who is involved with strategic planning?
The Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) will collaborate with a team of highly qualified professionals with rich international experience in higher education strategic planning and a deep familiarity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region.
